Exclusive Interview by First Comics News
It was my great pleasure to have my first artist interview with Francis Sky from First Comics News. Francis is known for being a coordinator of live concerts, a popular radio DJ, and the creator of his first web comic, “The Massacre Twins“.
Here are a few questions from the interview:
Why did you take up painting?
I had suddenly realized that I felt really good while doing art. I could put my imagination and feelings down from my mind and on to paper and create images that meant something to me. It was like an extension of myself, and a way to challenge both my skills and intellect as well as my own personal therapy.
Do you remember what you first painting was?
My first acrylic painting was a demon/angel figure. It must have spawned from my teenaged angst, but it was definitely interesting looking; very pale, androgynous and with wings that had several large eyeballs engulfed in the feathers. I also started a dark Alice in Wonderland series around the same time.
Are there are specific themes you go for in your art?
I don’t particularly aim for any theme, but my art is very inspired and drawn from nature, folklore/myth, occultism and music. My painting process is more emotive and expressionistic in my mind, but visually inspired by baroque and romantic era paintings – very dark and rich colors with a strong light source. I have no real theme for all my paintings, but each one will have a story and emotion of its own. My illustrations have their own story as well, but are a little more specific in content and symbolism than my paintings.
Alexandria Noël at the Halloween SoWa Open Market
It’s confirmed that I will have a booth set up at the SoWa Open Market, part of Haunted Happenings, in Salem, Masssachusetts. You can visit me at my booth on Essex St over the October 26-27 weekend and see original paintings, original drawings, limited edition prints, and tshirts. Neil from 1476 will also be there with CDs and merch.
I will post more details as I get them, so until then!
